Pleural Disease

Injury, infection or inflammation can lead to blood or air buildup in the pleural space, which is the cavity between the lungs and under the chest wall. This buildup of blood or air can cause pleural disease, including pleural effusion and pneumothorax.

At LeBauer Pulmonary, we manage pleural effusion and pneumothorax and offer diagnostic procedures. For diagnosis, we use ultrasound-guided thoracentesis performed in the office or as an outpatient procedure at the hospital.

Services we provide:

  • Indwelling pleural catheter placement for palliative management of recurrent effusions
  • Pleurodesis: An outpatient procedure to prevent recurring pleural effusions
  • Endobronchial valve placement for persistent air leaks and bronchopleural fistulas
