LeBauer Pulmonary Asthma Center
Asthma is a chronic respiratory condition which causes inflammation and narrowing of the airways of the lungs. This results in difficulty breathing, and can also cause symptoms like cough, shortness of breath, wheezing and chest tightness.
Asthma affects people of all ages, and LeBauer Pulmonary Asthma Center is the only resource in the area for life-threatening asthma. We also offer asthma diagnosis and asthma management support.
As of 2021, CDC statistics show that nearly 26 million people in the U.S. have asthma, which equals about 1 in 13 people. Most of these people are over the age of 18.
Signs and Symptoms of Asthma
Common signs and symptoms of asthma in both adults and children include:
- Wheezing
- Shortness of Breath
- Persistent Coughing
- Chest Tightness
- Increased Mucus Production
In children, you may also see an increased frequency of colds or respiratory infections, behavioral changes and/or trouble sleeping.
The LeBauer Pulmonary Asthma Center offers:
- Pulmonary function testing, including exhaled nitric oxide testing, methacholine challenge testing
- Non-skin prick allergy testing
- Inhaler teaching
- State-of-the-art treatments for asthma, including revolutionary injectable and infusion therapies to improve asthma symptoms and quality of life
- Working closely with other disciplines including allergy/immunology, otolaryngology (ENT,) gastroenterology and SLP to help manage other conditions which may worsen asthma control
- Working closely with patients to develop a personalized asthma action plan
- Specialization in severe asthma patients including those patients with pregnancy and asthma, severe allergic asthma
