Research

  On the forefront of research.

Through the Piedmont Respiratory Research Foundation (PRRF), the physicians of LeBauer Pulmonology participate in groundbreaking research into the causes and treatments of a wide variety of lung and breathing disorders. Founded by LeBauer physicians, this not-for-profit organization reinvests its proceeds into under funded fields of study.
Current areas of interest include Anemia in Critical Illness; Acute Delirium related to Sedation in the ICU (the MIND trial); Nosocomial Pneumonia; Xigris Phase 4 trials; Long Term Deep Venous Prophylaxis; and Severe Sepsis Pharmacological Trials. In addition, the PRRF is one of only 12 U.S. research centers involved in the Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome networking trial, sponsored by the National Institutes of Health through the ICU/Acute Lung Injury Grant, and results of the Associationâ's recent research into Fluid and Catheter Treatment have been published in New England Journal of Medicine.
Participation in these studies ensures that the physicians and staff of LeBauer Pulmonology maintain an exceptionally high level of education and training, resulting in an ability to deliver the very best care that current medical science can offer.
